Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay hosts concerts in two very different rooms: the large Esplanade Concert Hall, built for acoustic music, and the small, flexible Esplanade Theatre Studio. Both follow Esplanade's house rules, which are stricter about photos than stadium shows.
Getting there
- Esplanade MRT (CC3, Circle Line) is the closest station, about a 5-minute walk. Follow the signs for Esplanade.
- City Hall MRT (North-South and East-West lines) is also close. Underground walkways link City Hall to the Esplanade area, so you can stay out of the rain for most of the way.
- Promenade MRT (Circle and Downtown lines) is another short walk away.
Esplanade is in the middle of the city, so after the show you have plenty of trains, buses and food options nearby.
Bags, food and re-entry
From Esplanade's own visitor guide:
- Bags: bulky items and plastic bags go to the baggage cart outside the venue; they're not allowed inside the Concert Hall or Theatre.
- Food and drink: generally not allowed inside the venue, unless the show is marked as "food-friendly". The foyer bars sell snacks and drinks before the show and at the interval.
- Leaving and coming back in: generally not allowed once the show has started, except at points the venue announces for that show.
- Latecomers: Esplanade's general advisory says latecomers are generally not admitted once the performance has begun, though some shows have exceptions. Arrive early.
- Children: most shows admit ages six and above, and every audience member needs a ticket.
Photos and video
Esplanade says photography is generally not allowed during shows. Some performances do allow photos, usually announced before the show starts, and flash is never welcome. For shows that don't allow recording, keep your phone away.
So before you plan to film at Esplanade:
- Check the show page for its photo and video policy.
- Listen for the announcement before the show.
- If photos are allowed, turn the flash off, and keep your screen dim and low so you don't block the people behind you.
